USB Tether iPhone 3GS To Multiple Computers/Printers

I needed to find a way of connecting my laptop, WiFi printer and tablet to the internet using my Personal Hotspot on my iPhone 3GS. Searching the internet didn't reveal much help at all, if anything, it was very much outdated.

The android tablet was only running on Froyo 2.2, so was unable to connect to the Personal Hotspot or any Ad Hoc network set-up on the laptop. The iPhone bluetooth is also very choosy about what it connects to, so the tablet would not connect that way either.

I used the following items to create my iPhone Personal Hotspot network;
  • Linksys router model WRT54GC
  • Acer laptop with Windows7
  • iPhone 3GS on 3 network
  • iPhone USB cable
  • Ethernet cable 1.5m
  • WiFi HP Photosmart 3 in 1 CN245B
The instructions below are basic, so if you are unsure, or require more details, of how to set-up your router or create bridge connections, please search the internet.
  • Connect iPhone to laptop via USB
  • Turn on Personal Hotspot
  • Make sure internet is connected by opening a browser
  • Connect Ethernet cable from laptop to router (internet port)
  • Open Network & Sharing Centre (left click on network icon in system tray)
  • Click on Change Adapter Settings
  • Highlight both Personal Hotspot and Local Area Network
  • Right click and then select 'Bridge Connections' to create bridge
  • Wait for the bridge to be created
  • Connect WiFi on laptop to Linksys router (open - no passwords set)
  • Connect WiFi printer via router
  • You should now be able to connect any WiFi device through the router to the internet
Once it was all running and connecting to the internet and WiFi printer, I set the router to a higher security to protect from outsiders, by setting a password for the WiFi.

You will notice that the network icon (Linksys network) in the system tray is showing no internet connection, but if you connect another laptop/mobile to the Linksys network, you will be connected to the internet.

My iPhone is JB'd and I have MyWi installed, so the next step for me now, is to try to connect the iPhone to the laptop via WiFi.

Google+; How BAD is that?!

Logged onto Google+ today to catch up with my 'circles' only to find that all my contacts in them were gone, just empty 'circles'!
After a search on the net, I discovered that a couple of days ago I had updated my Google contacts from my iPhone. What's wrong with that, I hear you ask? Well, it turns out that when you update or delete your contacts in Google, you also delete your 'circle' friends! Doh!
Now I have to try and put everyone back in their respective 'circle'. Thanks a bunch Google. NOT!
Come on Google, what the hell are you playing at?

Unable To Get Photos Off iPhone!

Had a problem the other day where I couldn't copy photos from my iPhone to my Windows Vista computer, I know I had done it before, and now I couldn't. A search on the Internet revealed that I needed to download a program to do this, I knew I had done it before, what was stopping me?!

After a short deliberation, I thought, what was different now to when I managed it before? The only answer I could come up with was that I had put a security lock on the iPhone, so a quick change in the General settings on the iPhone, connected back to the computer, and 'Voila!' the iPhone showed up as an additional HDD.

Finish Powerball Dishwasher Tabs - No Balls!

Popped a Finish Powerball tab into the dishwasher the other day and the little red 'ball' fell off the tab. Lo and behold, the so called ball is actually a semi-sphere, not a ball!

Another case for Trading Standards of misrepresenting a product...?

Kelloggs 'Squares' - Not so square!

Now, when I went to school I learnt about shapes and that a square is a shape that has four equal sides and four corners that are 90 degrees. So why, oh why do they call a cuboid a square?
